FORT WAYNE, IN – September 03, 2026 – PRESSADVANTAGE –
A growing share of the backyard fence requests Gleave Construction fields now ask for privacy and security without closing off the yard, a preference the company has tracked across its recent Fort Wayne projects. Gleave Construction recently completed one such installation, wrapping a residential backyard in a bronze ornamental aluminum fence that defines the space while preserving the view of its mature trees and open lawn.
The family-owned company has built fences across Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana since 1970 and was incorporated in Indiana in 1981 under Business Entity ID 98112-490. It is now run by the second generation, siblings Wendy Vie, Adam Gleave, and Seth Gleave, each with more than 30 years in the trade. A foreman with at least 10 years of field experience manages every job, and the company sources its fencing materials from trade suppliers rather than big-box retailers.

The project enclosed a Fort Wayne backyard that already had established landscaping, including shade trees, an open lawn, and a stamped concrete patio the homeowner wanted to keep in view. Rather than a solid privacy fence, which would have boxed in those features, the crew installed ornamental aluminum with a window-top rail design, a decorative ring cutout along the top rail that dresses up a standard picket profile without adding bulk. The fence carries a bronze powder-coated finish, a baked-on coating that resists rust and fading, chosen over the more common black to blend with the surrounding greenery and an existing wood split-rail border on the property. A matching walk gate with the same window-top detail completes the run.
Ornamental aluminum suited the property because the yard already had visual character worth keeping. A taller privacy panel would have hidden the shade trees and the patio, the features that made the space appealing in the first place. The window-top design gave the fence a finished look while holding sightlines open, and placing it next to the existing split-rail border let the new fence mark the enclosed yard without competing with a feature the homeowner wanted to keep. For a backyard used for its view as much as its seclusion, the open-picket profile answered both.
Aluminum fencing needs the same below-grade work as any other material to hold its line through Indiana winters. Gleave Construction set the posts below the region’s roughly 36-inch frost line, the depth at which the ground freezes in winter, and anchored them in concrete so the seasonal freeze-thaw cycle would not push them out of alignment by spring. Before the crew arrived, a foreman reviewed the site with the homeowner, covering post placement, grade changes along the fence line, and drainage. The company also contacts Indiana 811, the state’s utility-marking service, before digging on any project, and handles permit applications and any homeowner-association approvals as part of its standard process rather than leaving them to the customer.
“Everybody assumes privacy means a solid wall,” said Seth Gleave, co-owner of Gleave Construction. “For some yards it is the right call. But when a yard already has good trees and a nice patio, a six-foot panel throws all of that away for a little seclusion. Half our job is talking a homeowner out of the fence they walked in asking for and into the one that actually fits the property.”
