Rams enter revamped Pac-12 with new artificial turf at Canvas Stadium and practice fields
CALHOUN, GA / ACCESS Newswire / August 24, 2026 / As Colorado State University (CSU) prepares to help kick off the reimagined Pac-12 Conference’s inaugural season, the Rams are doing so with newly installed artificial turf at both Canvas Stadium and the nearby practice facilities. Each facility now features FieldTurf Vertex CORE, an elite system trusted by numerous NCAA programs, which will see its first regular-season action on September 5th.
The off-season turf replacement gives Canvas Stadium its first new field since 2019. It also marks a return for FieldTurf by Tarkett Sports, which provided the playing surface at the Rams’ previous home-Sonny Lubick Field at Hughes Stadium-from 2006 to 2016. In addition to the stadium and outdoor practice fields, FieldTurf just completed a replacement of the turf in the Indoor Practice Facility (IPF).
“Jed, Todd and the whole FieldTurf team have been tremendous partners to work with. It is great to have them back involved with Colorado State, after they previously handled the turf at Hughes Stadium,” Colorado State Director of Athletics, John Weber said. “FieldTurf’s durability technology and emphasis on safety were important to us as we explored our options, given the many internal and external partners who use Canvas Stadium, the practice field, and the Indoor Practice Facility. Their partnership with multiple NFL franchises speaks for their reputation as a company and for their product. We are excited for this turf to serve a variety of athletic programs, university programs and high school and youth programs throughout the Fort Collins and Northern Colorado community.”
With CSU also celebrating its 10th season at the 41,000-capacity Canvas Stadium, there is a palpable excitement around what the future holds for Rams athletics. While the school’s competitive spirit is as strong as ever, joining the Pac-12 has only elevated the desire to excel, which is further bolstered by the arrival of new head coach Jim Mora.
“FieldTurf did an outstanding job upgrading our football playing surfaces and giving our players the highest standard possible to compete on every day,” Mora said. “We are incredibly appreciative and grateful to President Parsons, Athletic Director John Weber and Deputy AD Scott Sidwell for their commitment and support of our football program and, most importantly, our student-athletes. We want to provide our players with the very best resources to prepare, compete and perform at a high level, while doing everything we can to keep them safe. This new turf is a tremendous investment in our players and in the future of Colorado State football.”
The Rams will begin the landmark season with a three-game homestand, providing ample opportunity to familiarize themselves with their new surface. Having been trusted by top college and NFL teams, FieldTurf Vertex CORE has repeatedly responded to the demands of elite competition at every level.
Jed Easterbrook, FieldTurf Rocky Mountain Regional Vice President: “We are extremely excited to welcome Colorado State back to the FieldTurf family. Their decision reflects a commitment to providing the highest levels of safety and performance for their student-athletes, and we’re proud to be their trusted partner once again.”
Trusted at the Highest Level
CSU’s new Vertex CORE was designed to deliver the perfect combination of performance and beauty. Vertex CORE demonstrates FieldTurf’s unwavering dedication to quality and strive to Change the Game.
Vertex CORE is designed using FieldTurf’s heavyweight 3-layer infill technology, which has shown a significantly lower incidence of injuries per research by Michael C. Meyers, a Professor in the Department of Sport Science and Physical Education at Idaho State University.
