VergeIO Announces VergeOS Support in Veeam Backup & Replication

Veeam now officially supports VergeOS in Backup & Replication 13.1. VergeOS is selectable right in the Veeam console. No driver, no workaround.

The announcement follows VergeIO’s prior work to implement Veeam’s Universal Hypervisor API. With VergeOS now listed in Veeam’s Universal Hypervisor documentation, customers can move from evaluation to protected production workloads without building a custom backup process around the hypervisor.

The Objection That Stalls VMware Migrations

Two Layers of Protection, One Decision

Official Veeam support does not narrow what VergeOS delivers on its own. The platform carries Virtual Data Center snapshots, cross-site replication through ioReplicate, immutable checkpoints through ioFortify, and node failure absorption through ioGuardian as core functions. Those capabilities operate at infrastructure scale and answer macro-level recovery, including node loss, site loss, and rollback of an entire environment. Veeam complements those infrastructure capabilities with enterprise backup and recovery functions for VergeOS workloads. Veeam answers the granular work that enterprise backup was built for, covering file and application restoration, database recovery, and long-term retention policy. Organizations running both layers get depth that neither one produces alone.

The Hardware Math Has Not Moved

Server economics continue to favor a migration that leaves existing hardware in place. Conventional DRAM contract prices rose 93 to 98 percent quarter over quarter in the first quarter of 2026, and combined revenue at the top five NAND flash suppliers climbed 83.7 percent in the same quarter, driven by price increases, according to TrendForce. Server DRAM is set to rise another 13 to 18 percent in the third quarter, with server DRAM shortages projected to begin in 2027. Most VMware alternatives force a server refresh alongside the platform change, which turns a software decision into a capital request during the worst pricing cycle in a decade.
