The U.S. Marine Corps, through Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS), has launched free high-speed Wi-Fi for every Marine living in barracks, from Private through Sergeant, under a new agreement with Boingo Wireless. The agreement makes Wi-Fi available at no cost to Marines at installations around the world, significantly advancing the Marine Corps’ commitment to quality of life.
Boingo currently provides Wi-Fi connectivity to nearly 400,000 service member beds across more than 2,100 dormitories and barracks on over 100 U.S. Army, Air Force and Marine Corps installations worldwide. Because the underlying network infrastructure is already in place, free Wi‑Fi is immediately available to every Marine, Private through Sergeant, living in barracks across participating Marine Corps installations, without the delays, construction timelines or capital investment typically associated with deploying a new network.
There are no service contracts or equipment required to access the free Wi‑Fi service, designed to deliver fast speeds of 100 Mbps. To sign up, Marines simply connect to the MCCS Free Wi-Fi network in their barracks. Their free Wi-Fi account connects them seamlessly across 30 Marine Corps bases.
“MCCS recognized that reliable connectivity is no longer optional for Marines. It’s essential,” said Rebecca Gray, senior vice president and general manager, military at Boingo Wireless. “By funding and prioritizing free Wi-Fi in the barracks, the Marine Corps is addressing a critical need for today’s service members and removing a cost barrier for Marines around the world. For more than a decade, Boingo has built, operated and continuously upgraded secure communications infrastructure that connects Army, Air Force and Marine Corps installations worldwide. Our technology is proven, already operates at scale and gives military leaders a ready foundation to expand Wi-Fi access and support the needs of today’s service members.”
As a trusted partner of the U.S. military, Boingo manages complex Wi‑Fi, cellular distributed antenna systems (DAS), macro towers and fiber-to-the-home networks across more than 100 military and federal installations worldwide. This agreement with MCCS combines Boingo’s proven military infrastructure with U.S.-based customer support, 24/7 network monitoring, NIST-aligned cybersecurity standards, customizable content filtering and ongoing maintenance and technology upgrades to deliver a reliable, secure experience for Marines.
