Beneath a Chester car park, after eighteen centuries, a Roman mosaic has been found. Dating back to 180 AD, this seven-by-five-metre floor is one of the best-preserved ever discovered. Its vivid hunting scene and geometric patterns still gleam after two thousand years. The mosaic once graced the dining room of a wealthy Roman townhouse. Now, after a year of careful conservation, it goes on public display this autumn at the Atheneum Museum. See history under your feet from October third.
