Gen II Fund Services, LLC (“Gen II”), a global leader in private capital fund administration, today released findings from its 2026 GP/LP Technology Survey, which examines LP priorities for fund technology and how “elite” fund operations are being defined at a time when LPs are focusing capital commitments on the GPs that deliver the highest institutional quality.

A core finding from the survey is that, despite the hype surrounding implementation of AI and machine learning, when it comes to fund operations, LPs place the highest value on Infrastructure (62%) and Outcomes (61%) such as Speed of Reporting, Transparency, Actionability of Insights and Reporting Customizability. These functional, everyday needs are enduring LP priorities versus pure technology issues like Workflow Digitization (53%) and Adoption of AI (41%).

That mindset is reflected in attitudes around AI with a gap between GPs and LPs. GPs cited AI as the only relevant factor in technology differentiation five times more than LPs (16% vs 3%).

Steven Millner, CEO and Co-founder at Gen II says that the implications of the report for GPs are clear: “Emphasizing AI alone is unlikely to resonate with LPs. Firms should demonstrate how AI strengthens core operational pillars and delivers measurable value. AI is not the destination, but one component of a broader, integrated approach to being technologically elite.”

To leverage technology in a way that helps secure commitments from LPs, GPs should communicate how AI and other tech investments connect to investor value by following four key learnings from the report:

  1. Lead With Outcomes, Not Features

  2. Prioritize the Four Pillars of Speed, Transparency, Customization, and Infrastructure

  3. Custom Reporting as a Core Capability

  4. Get Honest LP Feedback

“Technology for its own sake will not achieve the true differentiation that attracts capital,” added Millner. “GPs who invest in infrastructure first, then layer in technology strategically to meet evolving LP demands, are the ones that stand out as the technologically elite, who are securing LP commitments today, and who will be best positioned for the future.”
